A nephew of the Pope, who was returning to Buenos Aires in his car on the early hours of Tuesday, August 19th, crashed against a cargo truck and his vehicle became embedded in it. In this event, his 39-year-old wife and his two children, a 2-year-old and an 8-months-old passed away. Emanuel Bergoglio remains in critical state.


Mortality from Road Crashes in 193 Countries: A Comparison with Other Leading Causes of Death

The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) recently released a research report "Mortality from road crashes in 193 countries: A comparison with other leading causes of death ", authored by Michael Sivak and Brandon Schoettle. The study compared, for each country of the world, the fatalities per population from road crashes with fatalities per population from three leading causes of death (malignant neoplasm, ischaemic heart disease, and cerebrovascular disease), and from all causes. The data, applicable to 2008, came from the World Health Organization.

We are proud to announce that Luchemos por la Vida’s Campaign "Safe pedestrians" ("Peatones Seguros") was awarded for the American region at the “Global Road Safety Film Festival” held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, in April 2013, by the Fondation Laser International.
